Ethanol Industry

Challenges

In the bio ethanol industry, drying higher quantities of by-products (DGS) is a very energy intensive process (with a higher demand on primary energy). DGS has properties (viscosity, adhesiveness, fluidity) that can make it difficult to manage. The quality of the dried products (DDGS) thus typically depends on high drying temperatures that are difficult to optimize.

Other challenges include emissions such as intense exhaust (volatile hydrocarbon compounds VOC) and dust as well as high requirements on dryer availability.

The Solution: SWISS COMBI ecoDry drum dryer

SWISS COMBI ecoDry is differentiated by a high potential for energy recovery due to a high dew point (i.e. energy may be used for waste heat evaporator). Gentle vapour drying together with integrated product cooling leads to a high quality of Dried Distillers Grains with Solubles (DDGS).

Low emissions values are due to a thermal integrated afterburning process.

SWISS COMBI ecoDry has a high drying capacity (up to 40t evaporation of water per hour). The burner can be powered with secondary fuel like fusel oil, technical alcohol or biogas as well as other alternative fuels. SWISS COMBI ecoDry is distinguished by its high availability as well as low potential for fire hazard due to an inert drying atmosphere.

A high drying capacity per unit is possible.
